FAVIGNANA AND EGADI ISLANDS

With an extension of 53,992 hectares and its 77 dive sites, the Egadi Islands AMP is a habitat that hosts great biodiversity. From the largest Posidonia oceanica prairie in the Mediterranean, to the numerous protected species that inhabit its seabed, such as the Caretta caretta turtle and various species of cetaceans, the Egadi AMP is a paradise for divers of all levels.

AMP ISLANDS EGADI IS BORN

Established in 1991 and managed since 2001 by the Municipality of Favignana on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, the MPA pursues the institutional mission of protecting and enhancing the marine environment.

54,000 Hectares

THE LARGEST MARINE AREA IN EUROPE

With its 54,000 hectares of extension it alone reaches almost a quarter of the entire Italian protected sea. It is an archipelago of rare beauty and richness due to its particular position which makes it the natural watershed between the Western Mediterranean, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.
